  1. What is scientifically based research, and why it is important?

  2. How has scientifically based research furthered the understanding of dyslexia and effective instruction for all students?

  3. What is the National Reading Panel, and what evidence does it present about effective instructional methods, materials, and approaches?

  4. Compare and contrast qualitative and quantitative research and experimental and quasi-experimental research.

  5. How has research documented that effective instruction improves reading and changes the brain?

Activity

Visit http://dibels.uoregon.edu.  One at a time, click on each of the three links at the bottom of the home page. Read each page and play the videos. Then click on Benchmarks. List the measures that are given at the end of each grade level. List the benchmark for each measure that indicates a student is at low risk for reading failure.
