Q: Who can use this site?

A: This site is designed for instructors and students who are using Children with Disabilities, Fifth Edition, in a college course. However, anyone is free to read and/or download material for personal, noncommercial study. For details, see our terms of use policy.

Q: How do I get around the site?

A: To access the supplementary materials available for each chapter, use the pull-down menu at the top of this page. Select a chapter title, then click "go." (Or, visit the text-only sitemap for a list of chapters and links.) Once you've arrived at the chapter you selected, use the links in the box on the lefthand side of the page to navigate through the supplementary materials.

At the top righthand corner of each page, you'll also find links to the "FAQs," "Glossary," "Resources," and “About the Editor” sections of the site.

Q: How do I download the slides?

A: PowerPoint — part of the Microsoft Office suite of products — must be installed on your computer to access the PowerPoint version of these slides. If PowerPoint is not already installed on your computer, you can purchase a copy from Microsoft.

If PowerPoint is installed on your computer, simply click on the link for the PowerPoint file you wish to download. Your computer will likely prompt you to save the downloaded file. If you are prompted to save the file, save it in a place on your computer that's easy to remember and find. Start up the PowerPoint program. Then choose File > Open, and locate the saved file. You should be able to open the file without any trouble.

If you'd prefer a free alternative, download the slides in PDF format. Adobe Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer to access PDF files. If Reader is not already installed on your computer, it is easy to download for free at the Adobe web site.

If Reader is installed on your computer but isn't set up as a "plug-in" for whichever browser you use to access the Internet, your computer may prompt you to save the downloaded file when you click on its link. If you are prompted to save the file, save it in a place on your computer that's easy to remember and find. Start up the Reader program. Then choose File > Open, and locate the saved file. You should now be able to open the file without any trouble.
